New Skilled Occupation List Announced

New legislative instruments came into affect on 11th March 2019 to allow for a number of changes to the MLSOL, STSOL and ROL in Australia. These  changes might allow you and your family to migrate to Australia. There are now even more avenues available in order to achieve your visa goals with a number of new occupations added to the Medium and Long‑term Strategic Skills List and Regional Occupations List.

We recommend you contact an Infinite Migration Australia consultant for a consultation to review your options to live and work in Australia.

Which visas are affected?

Skilled occupation lists applies to all general skilled migration visa, employer sponsored temporary and permanent visas, regional sponsored migration and training visas.  The new changes will only apply to new applications; pending nomination and applications prior to 11 March 2019 will not be affected.

What Does this Mean?

The new skilled occupation changes mean that there has been a major shift in regards to the number of occupations available to migrate to Australia on a skilled visa.  The change has been made by the Australian Department of Home Affairs in an attempt to respond to changes in the Australian labour market and regional variations across Australia.

The instrument operates to specify the skilled occupations applicable to an application, or proposed application, for a Subclass 407 (Training) visa (Subclass 407 visa).

The specified occupations are allocated to three different lists being:

  1. the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL);
  2. the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL); and
  3. the Regional Occupation List (ROL).

The purpose of the instrument is to update the occupations included in the skilled occupations lists for the purposes of paragraph 2.72B(3)(b) of the Regulations.

Specifically, changes from the old law in the instrument are as follows:
