2022 Migration Year – Victoria’s Skilled Migration Program

New opportunities announced under Victoria’s Skilled Migration Program for the 2022 Migration Year.

 

The Victoria’s Skilled Migration Program has announced encouraging news for 2021-22. The 2021-22 Victorian skilled visa nomination program (subclass 190 and 491) will open on 7 July 2021. The Department of Home Affairs has provided Victoria with 3,500 subclass 190 places and 500 subclass 491 places. The Victorian Government focuses on nominating occupations related to STEMM (Science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medical). Occupations on the Department of Home Affairs eligible list can apply for nomination applications. This broadens the eligible occupations and encourages all occupations associated with STEMM.

 

This opportunity allows for candidates to potentially apply for :

 

  • Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491)

 

Who will be eligible? 

 

To be eligible, candidates must be currently living and working in Victoria and using their STEMM skills in a target sector.

 

What are the eligible Target Sectors?

 

Victoria has confirmed that occupations that work within the following sectors will be considered:

 

  • Health
  • Medical research
  • Life sciences
  • Digital
  • Agri-food
  • Advanced manufacturing
  • New energy, emissions reduction and circular economy

 

What are the essential criteria? 

 

To be eligible to apply for Victorian Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa nomination, you must:

 

  • have had your Registration of Interest (ROI) selected
  • live and work in Victoria
  • work in a Victorian target sector using your STEMM skills
  • be under 45 years of age
  • have at least Competent English
  • have a valid Skills Assessment
  • have achieved at least 65 points

 

To be eligible to apply for Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) visa nomination, you must:

 

  • have had your Registration of Interest (ROI) selected
  • live and work in regional Victoria
  • work in a Victorian target sector using your STEMM skills
  • be under 45 years of age
  • have at least Competent English
  • have a valid Skills Assessment
  • have achieved minimum points score

 

 

 Significant changes to the 2021-22 program

 

Significant changes have also been announced to the programme that broadens the opportunity to be nominated. The changes are as follows:

 

  •  The removal of the minimum experience and hours worked requirement.
  •  An increase in the number of target sectors.
  •  Applicants must have STEMM skills and have a Skill Level 1 or 2 occupations.
  • Applicants for subclass 491 nomination may also have a Skill Level 3 occupation using their STEMM skills.
